According to the Judiciary, Execution of Two Gay Activists in Urmia

According to the judiciary’s announcement, execution of two gay activists in Urmia

The judiciary’s news agency confirmed the news related to the execution of two LGBTQ rights activists but implicitly denied any connection to homosexuality or activities in that field. This news agency wrote on its website yesterday, September 5th.

In recent days, news about the issuance of death sentences for Zahra Sadeghi and Elham Choubdar has been published on social media, and there has been a lot of agitation regarding this matter.

Investigations by the judiciary’s media center indicate that the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Urmia sentenced the mentioned individuals to death on charges of ‘corruption on earth.’

Contrary to the news published on social media and the resulting agitation, the scope of activities and charges against these individuals involved deceiving and trafficking women and young girls to one of the countries in the region with the promise of employment and training, exploiting them, which in some cases led to the suicide of several of these girls.
