Following reports of a massacre in Darfur, the leader of Sudan’s paramilitary forces has promised an investigation.
The leader of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces has pledged to investigate the violations committed by his troops during the occupation of the city of El Fasher.
General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, promised an investigation after numerous reports and images of the massacre of civilians during the occupation of El Fasher in the Darfur region were released on Sunday. The release of these videos, some of which apparently originated from posts by the Rapid Support Forces themselves on social media, sparked international outrage.
The United Nations Security Council is also set to hold a meeting regarding the situation in Sudan, which has been embroiled in a civil war between the military and paramilitary forces for three years.
The World Health Organization has described the reports of the killing of more than 460 civilians, including patients and their companions, at the last semi-active hospital in El Fasher as shocking.
