Ahmad Hossein Fallahi, a member of parliament, suggests replacing athletes who do not sing the national anthem with faithful and revolutionary young people.
Ahmad Hossein Fallahi, a representative of Hamedan and Famenin in the Iranian parliament, proposed that faithful and revolutionary young people should replace athletes who do not sing the national anthem of the Islamic Republic in international competitions.
Mr. Fallahi, regarding his proposal, said that the Ministry of Sports should replace athletes with committed individuals.
He also claimed to have received numerous calls saying that there are young people who are committed to the system and wish to play on the national team.
This Iranian parliament member’s protest is against the symbolic action of some members of various national teams who have refused to sing the anthem in international competitions and have shown solidarity with public protests.
A prominent example of this was the Iranian beach soccer national team, which did not sing the national anthem in the Confederation Cup final against Brazil and did not celebrate the victory at the end of the match.
