Ahmad Hossein Fallahi, a member of parliament, suggested replacing athletes who do not sing the national anthem with young, faithful, and revolutionary individuals.
Ahmad Hossein Fallahi, a representative from Hamedan and Famenin in the Iranian parliament, proposed that young, faithful, and revolutionary individuals should replace athletes who do not sing the national anthem of the Islamic Republic in international competitions.
Mr. Fallahi stated regarding his proposal that the Ministry of Sports should replace athletes with committed individuals.
He also claimed to have received numerous calls stating that there are young people who are committed to the system and wish to play on the national team.
This Iranian parliament member’s objection was to the symbolic act of some members of various national teams who refused to sing the anthem in international competitions and showed solidarity with public protests.
A prominent example of this incident was the Iranian national beach soccer team, which did not sing the national anthem in the Confederations Cup final against Brazil and did not celebrate their victory at the end of the match.
