Ahmad Samii Gilani passed away at the age of 102

Ahmad Samii Gilani, a translator and editor, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, at his residence in Tehran. He had translated works by Noam Chomsky and Jean-Jacques Rousseau into Persian. Ahmad Samii Gilani was born on January 31, 1921, in the city of Rasht. After finishing school, he entered the University of Tehran to study Persian language and literature and obtained a master’s degree in general linguistics from the same university. From the late 1960s, he began working as an editor with the Franklin Publishing Institute and, at the same time, was invited by Professor Abdolhossein Zarrinkoub to teach for a period at the University of Tehran, University of Teacher Education, and also at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults. After the revolution, Professor Samii was engaged in editing at the Translation and Publication Agency, the Center for Scientific and Cultural Publications, the Institute for Cultural Studies and Research, Soroush Publications, the University Publishing Center, and the Encyclopedia Foundation.
