Ahmad Vahidi, the Minister of Interior, rejects Pezeshkian’s statements about governors supporting Jalili.
Ahmad Vahidi, Iran’s Minister of Interior, stated that one of the candidates made false claims that governors, district governors, and local officials are trying to ensure a specific candidate wins. We must be fair in our statements, and I apologize to the governors and state officials for this unfounded accusation.
Masoud Pezeshkian, one of the two presidential election candidates in Iran’s second round of voting, previously said in a debate with Saeed Jalili, in response to Jalili’s continuous references to Hassan Rouhani and several former government ministers supporting him, that ‘Dear people, know that the gentleman who wants to become president tomorrow, right now, has the government, its governors, and district officials working for him, and sometimes they even threaten people to vote.’
Mr. Vahidi said today after the cabinet meeting that this is not true.
Masoud Pezeshkian and Saeed Jalili are the two candidates who will compete again in the voting on Friday, and according to the law, whoever gains the sufficient majority will become the president.
