Al Jazeera: U.S. pressure on Iran is tied to strategic competition with China
In a new analysis, Al Jazeera wrote that the U.S. policy of maximum pressure against Iran is no longer just a regional policy and has become part of Washington’s strategic competition with China.
The report states that with the expansion of economic and energy relations between Tehran and Beijing, the pressure on Iran is also considered an effort to limit China’s access to Middle Eastern energy resources. Al Jazeera also claimed that one of the signs of the shift in power balance was the U.S. reliance on Pakistan, a close ally of China, to advance ceasefire negotiations after failing in the war with Iran.
According to Al Jazeera, the increase in China’s economic and diplomatic influence, including in Iran and the Middle East, has made the competition between Washington and Beijing a significant factor influencing U.S. policy towards Iran and other regional crises.
