Ali Daei's Discussion with FIFA President about the Persian Gulf

Ali Daei’s Conversation with FIFA President about the Persian Gulf

Ali Daei, who had traveled to Paris to participate in the FIFA Best Awards ceremony, reported having a conversation with the FIFA president about the use of a different title for the Persian Gulf.

The Gulf Cup of Nations in Iraq was held under the name Arabian Gulf. Neither the FIFA president, the FIFA website, the Iraqi Prime Minister, nor Mustafa Sadr used the term Persian Gulf.

The Iranian Football Federation, referencing the name Persian Gulf in ancient maps, announced that solid and firm evidence related to this issue will be sent to FIFA to correct inappropriate practices contrary to international norms.

It is unclear how FIFA has responded to any potential follow-ups from the Iranian Federation, and the federation itself has shown little interest in pursuing its demands.
