Ali Davoudi, Iranian Weightlifter, Achieved Runner-Up and Secured His Spot for the Olympics

Ali Davoudi, the Iranian weightlifter, achieved second place and secured his spot for the Olympics.

On the last day of the Weightlifting World Cup, Ali Davoudi in the super heavyweight category achieved second place with a total of 454 kilograms and secured his spot for the Olympics.

These competitions, hosted by Thailand, were the last qualifying event for Paris. Davoudi, with 202 kilograms in the snatch and 252 kilograms in the clean and jerk, claimed second place. Varazdat Lalayan from Armenia, with impressive records of 210 and 253 kilograms, reached a total of 463 kilograms to become the champion.

In this category, Ayat Sharifi, with 201 kilograms in the snatch and 246 kilograms in the clean and jerk, secured third place. Although he set a remarkable record, he couldn’t surpass Davoudi’s mark due to the one quota per country rule.

Thus, Iranian weightlifting will head to Paris with two representatives. Davoudi, the Tokyo Olympic silver medalist in the last weight category, will compete alongside Mir Mostafa Javadi in the 89 kg category.
