Ali Larijani: Sometimes I say it’s good that Haj Qasem left

A member of the Expediency Discernment Council mentioned in our meetings that Haj Qasem would say you cannot run the country with a certain mindset, you can’t solve problems by creating contradictions.

Sometimes an important international issue was raised, and two or three other side issues were added to it. He would say, why are they making our work difficult? You should facilitate our work.

He wouldn’t take a public stance, he would pass by them. If someone with a big responsibility gets involved in minor issues, they shouldn’t. He would feel sorrow.

When internal disagreements over trivial matters reached a point where they caused a rift, Haj Qasem would suffer.

When gaps and conflicts are not resolved, they turn into resentment and violence. The result is factions within society that pursue conflict instead of the country’s development, which severely harms national interests.

Some countries in the region have been embroiled in internal conflict for years. They have money, but it is spent on other things.

We need to understand not to act this way.

A society is not dynamic if it lacks diversity.

Martyr Motahari, in one of his works, says something very instructive. He says look at why the history of Islamic civilization flourished. Islamic civilization was top-notch. He says the reason for progress was that different societies accepted to operate under this framework, and also the tolerance of Islamic rulers. Everyone thought they could live within this framework like Muslims. You accept diversity but also accept the framework of Islamic governance. If you disregard either, you won’t reach Islamic civilization.

In domestic incidents, I regret hearing some remarks and say God loved Haj Qasem that he left.

Some remarks are truly painful. Ayatollah Khamenei has fought against dictatorship for 60 years, both before and after the revolution.

I saw him prevent dictatorial behavior. The Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist is for this, but some understand it differently, and this is painful.

We are all in the same boat in this country. Let’s not puncture it with our words. If the boat is punctured, we will all be in crisis.

Haj Qasem thought a lot about the safety of the revolution’s ship.
