Ali Motahari: The Prevention of a Female Artist's Daf Performance Was Due to Her Thick Nail Polish

Ali Motahari prevented a female artist from playing the daf because of her thick nail polish.

Ali Motahari, who is mainly known as a supporter of mandatory hijab, claimed that the prevention of a female artist from playing the daf at the anniversary ceremony of Morteza Motahari was due to the objection of several women to the thick nail polish on the nails of the female musician, which led to her being removed from the performance, although it was naturally unpleasant.

In a note on his Telegram channel regarding a widely circulated video that had been protested in recent days, Ali Motahari wrote that at the commemoration program for Ayatollah Motahari, the museum house management had arranged a daf and ney performance to accompany a poem by Hafez that Mr. Motahari appreciated. The daf player was a woman and the ney player was a man. When these two took their places, several women objected to the thick nail polish on the female daf player’s artificial nails. The museum house manager, without consulting me, replaced her with a male colleague and teacher of the female daf player, which was naturally unpleasant.

Motahari further added that the objecting women did apologize to and console the female musician.
