Ali Rabiei, the spokesperson for Rouhani’s government, standing on the right side of history is the secret to longevity.
Ali Rabiei, the spokesperson for Rouhani’s government, wrote a note titled ‘The Voice of the Street is Not Frightening’ for the Etemad newspaper in response to the events of the past forty days in Iran. Part of this note reads:
I am sitting sadly, closely following the events of the past forty days in Iran. I think, alas, the signs that social science scholars raised were not understood by the authorities and policymakers, and even those who presented the realities facing society were treated with disdain.
I still believe, based on what I have written, that entrenched poverty, which has affected many social strata and caused the decline of the middle class, has not been noticed. Generations whose desires, needs, and lifestyles were full of unknown mysteries have not been seen. Women who have long sought visibility and breaking barriers were not understood. Policies that continued to be aggressively promoted without regard to these changes moved in a different space. Sanction-breaking efforts that could have opened new horizons were blocked under the pretext of minor political achievements, spreading widespread despair. And in 2021, the closing of the funds’ windows, which could have comforted generational changes, all contributed to the grounds for the cries rising from unheard voices.
Standing on the right side of history will be the secret to longevity and prosperity for a nation.
