Ali Shamkhani is going to Moscow; the drone attack on Isfahan is not on the agenda

The special representative of the Russian president for Afghanistan affairs has said that Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, will travel to Moscow next week to participate in a multilateral meeting focused on Afghanistan.

Sputnik reported that this meeting is a continuation of a similar meeting hosted last year in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, where the security council secretaries of India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan consulted about the situation in Afghanistan.

Zamir Kabulov, director of the Second Asian Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, told Sputnik news agency that during Mr. Shamkhani’s trip to Moscow, the security situation in Iran following the drone attack on the Ministry of Defense complex in Isfahan will not be the focus of discussions.

In the early hours of Sunday, January 29th, a massive explosion was reported at an ammunition factory in Isfahan. Iranian officials spoke of thwarting an attack by three small drones, but some Western sources assessed it as highly successful.
