Amnesty International: 14 detainees from the protests face serious risk of execution
In a statement, Amnesty International says that at least 14 Iranian citizens connected to the country’s anti-government protests are at serious risk of execution, including for charges that do not involve intentional murder, which it says violates Iran’s obligations under international law.
Arshia Takdastan, Javad Rouhi, Ebrahim Narouei, Kambiz Kharout, Majid Kazemi, Manouchehr Mehmannavaz, Mansour Dahmarde, Mohammad Boroghani, Mehdi Bahman, Mehdi Mohammadi Fard, Mohammad Ghobadlou, Saleh Mirhashemi, Saeed Yaghoubi, and Shoaib Mir Baloch Zehi Rigi are the fourteen individuals Amnesty International names.
The statement mentions that the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran have violated these citizens’ right to a fair trial and have subjected several of them to torture and ill-treatment, including flogging, electric shocks, threats of death, rape, and other forms of sexual violence.
