Amnesty International: Stop the Use of Children in Iran’s Armed Forces
The organization, citing published images, called for an end to the employment of individuals under 18 in military activities.
Amnesty International condemned the use of children alongside military forces in Iran and urged the country’s authorities to halt this practice.
The organization stated that employing individuals under 18 in the armed forces is considered a violation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and should be immediately banned.
Amnesty International also said that over the past 12 days, it has reviewed 16 images and videos showing armed children alongside IRGC and other security forces at checkpoints and gatherings.
These reports were released as Iranian officials last week confirmed the death of an 11-year-old child at a checkpoint in Tehran.
According to this report, some evidence and eyewitness accounts also indicate the presence of individuals under 18 at checkpoints in cities like Tehran, Karaj, and Rasht.
