Amnesty International urges the Human Rights Council to end the Taliban’s impunity
Amnesty International has called on United Nations member states to take concrete actions against the deteriorating human rights situation in Afghanistan and ensure justice is served for the victims of Taliban abuses.
The human rights organization stated that the extremist Taliban in Afghanistan have unlawfully detained women’s rights defenders, university professors, and civil activists due to their criticisms.
Amnesty International also mentioned that the Taliban are unwilling to investigate the actions of their members who severely violate Afghan rights, and therefore, this UK-based NGO is calling for the establishment of an independent investigative mechanism in Afghanistan.
Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, said that the human rights situation in Afghanistan is rapidly deteriorating, and the Taliban’s brutal abuses are repeated daily.
