Amnesty International says the pardon that the leader of the Islamic Republic has agreed to is intended to quell the protests.
Amnesty International states that the pardon agreed upon by the leader of the Islamic Republic is aimed at quelling international protests.
Nina Navid from Amnesty International said many of the protesters should not have been imprisoned and should be released. This pardon does not include those who have received death sentences. Amnesty International has stated and documented that these individuals have been tortured, raped, whipped, and as a result, confessed to crimes they did not commit, while they were merely participating in non-violent protests. These charges really need to be nullified, and the sentences, including the death sentences of those who participated in peaceful demonstrations, should be revoked.
The announcement that the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran has agreed to pardon a number of prisoners, including those involved in recent protests, has elicited reactions from users and some civil and legal figures and organizations.
