An Attacker with So Many Mysteries

The recent failed assassination attempt on Trump, which took place in Florida and remained incomplete, has turned into an intriguing mystery for journalists. Moments after the first news about the security service’s action to contain an attacker at Trump’s golf club was broadcast, journalists, alongside covering the security officials’ press conference held hours after the incident, spoke with FBI officials to learn more about the attacker’s identity.

Journalists identified Ryan Wesley Ruth, a 58-year-old citizen from North Carolina, as the attacker. Quickly, considering his age and matching his name and age with citizen records on social networks and government websites, they learned more about him and discovered that he was not entirely unknown to the media.

Ruth has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine, having done everything in recent years to support that country against Russian aggressors. His serious efforts to form a multinational military force to assist Ukrainian defenders were so significant and dynamic that he became notably recognized among Ukrainians, and even American publications had interviewed him on this matter. His son, in interviews following the Florida incident, spoke about his father’s strong motivation to support Ukraine and his anger at the shortcomings in this regard, specifically narrating his disappointment with Trump to journalists.

Ruth was a Trump supporter who voted for him in 2016 but quickly became disillusioned. He made a few limited financial contributions to Democrats but explicitly called for candidates other than Trump for the current election on the former Twitter, for example, supporting Nikki Haley. Apparently, after losing hope in this shift, he registered and voted as a Democrat in the primary elections in his state this year.

In any case, unlike the previous failed assassination, there has not been a massive wave of news and excitement among Trump’s supporters. The infamous scandal he created regarding immigrants in Ohio and the association of the notorious racist extremist Laura Loomer with him are at least two topics that have overshadowed his campaign and related news.
