Antony Blinken says the discovery of 84% enriched uranium in Iran is a serious issue.
Antony Blinken, the United States Secretary of State, has described reports of the discovery of traces of 84% enriched uranium in Iran as a very serious matter.
Mr. Blinken, speaking at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart in Ankara on Monday, announced that the United States is in contact with the International Atomic Energy Agency and three European countries regarding this issue.
According to Mr. Blinken, the United States is seeking to obtain more information on this matter.
Reuters and Bloomberg news agencies have reported, citing diplomatic sources, that inspectors from the agency have detected particles of 84% enriched uranium in Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Behrouz Kamalvandi, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, has stated that the presence of particles or a particle of uranium above 60% in the enrichment process does not mean enrichment above 60%.
