Antony Blinken summoned to explain America’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan
The U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee has sent a subpoena to Secretary of State Antony Blinken to compel him to explain to them about the committee’s report on America’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan later this month.
Michael McCaul, the Republican chairman of the committee, accused Mr. Blinken of ignoring previous requests and threatened to hold him accountable for contempt of Congress if he does not cooperate.
The U.S. State Department has stated that Mr. Blinken has testified in Congress about Afghanistan multiple times, but he was unable to appear before this committee on the proposed dates.
He called the subpoena unnecessary and disappointing, saying that reasonable options he had proposed were not considered.
