Antony Blinken was summoned to explain the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan
The U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee has issued a subpoena to Secretary of State Antony Blinken to compel him to explain their report on the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan later this month.
Michael McCaul, the Republican chairman of this committee, accused Mr. Blinken of ignoring previous requests and threatened to hold him in contempt of Congress if he does not cooperate.
The U.S. State Department has stated that Mr. Blinken has testified about Afghanistan in Congress multiple times but could not appear before this committee on the proposed dates.
He called this subpoena unnecessary and disappointing, saying that the reasonable options he suggested were ignored.
