Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, noted that global attention is intensely focused on what is happening in Iran.
Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, responded to questions about Iran during a segment of his year-end press conference.
His response included the United States’ perspective on the anti-government protests in Iran and the government’s handling of peaceful protesters.
He stated that global attention has intensely focused on what is happening throughout Iran, and we remain concerned about the Iranian government’s shooting at peaceful protesters, especially women and children.
The U.S. Secretary of State added that we have witnessed mass arrests, we have seen sham trials, we have seen executions, and we have seen the use of sexual violence as a tool to suppress protests. This has been observed not only by us but by the eyes of the world.
Mr. Blinken stated that even before the new wave of repression in Iran, the United States had sanctioned human rights violators of the Iranian people, and these sanctions have expanded.
