Apolitical activist Abtahi believes lifting restrictions on lands will empower people

Abtahi, the political activist, believes lifting the house arrest will pave the way for people to become active.

Mohammad Ali Abtahi, a reformist political activist, wrote that this February 14th marks the beginning of the fourteenth year that our dear Sheikh Mehdi Karroubi, our esteemed engineer Mir-Hossein Mousavi, and Mrs. Zahra Rahnavard have been under house arrest.

If the issue of house arrest is resolved, it will be an important sign of softening hearts and will pave the way for people to become active.

Even for encouraging public participation in elections, the best course of action is to place the parliament at the center of affairs. When the parliament is considered important and participation is possible, it should be announced that resolving the country’s chronic and unresolved issues, such as house arrest, foreign policy, crippling sanctions, or the filtering debate that society is grappling with, will be entrusted to the future parliament. To encourage participation, there must be reasons for participation.
