Approval for Using Frozen Sperm of Ukrainian Soldiers

The use of frozen sperm of Ukrainian soldiers has been approved

Last year, Ukrainian representatives passed a law that allowed military men and women to freeze their reproductive cells for free before going to the front lines. On Wednesday, these representatives approved amendments that allow the use of the frozen sperm or eggs of soldiers even after their death, a topic that has become a focal point of social debates in the country.

The previous provisions of this law mandated the destruction of frozen sperm and eggs of soldiers in the event of their death, a matter that sparked a wave of criticism against it, and Ukrainian representatives promised to redraft the law before it took effect.

In the new amendment to this law, all 264 representatives voted in favor, and as a result, free preservation of these samples will be conducted for three years after death, after which the soldier’s partner can pay to extend this storage.
