Araqchi: Negotiating with the U.S. is more like negotiating surrender

Abbas Araqchi, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, said on Tuesday, June 3, in Lebanon that the negotiations between Tehran and Washington are not from an equal position and resemble surrender negotiations.

On the sidelines of signing his book ‘The Art of Negotiation’ in Beirut, Araqchi referred to Trump’s approach, saying the new U.S. president first adopted a maximum pressure policy and then added military threats by sending military forces to Diego Garcia Island and the region, while simultaneously writing a letter to the leader of the Islamic Republic.

While the Islamic Republic says it is preparing a response to the United States’ written proposal, the possibility of Iran’s negative response and the U.S. insistence on zero enrichment have cast the future of the negotiations into uncertainty.
