Montenegro police announced that, in collaboration with the FBI, they have arrested an Iranian citizen on charges of conducting extensive cyber attacks against US infrastructure.

According to the police, this 39-year-old man, who holds dual citizenship of Iran and Turkey, was arrested in the coastal city of Kotor and is being pursued by a court in New York on charges of conspiracy to commit computer fraud, hacking, and identity theft.

Montenegrin authorities claim he has been involved in cyber attacks against more than 150 US universities since 2013, causing approximately $34 billion in damages.

Montenegro police stated that the case has been referred to the Supreme Court of Podgorica to review the process of extraditing the suspect to the US.
