Arrest of three people in connection with the sinking of a refugee boat

Italian police announced that three suspects have been arrested in relation to the disaster of a boat carrying refugees sinking in the country’s waters.

This boat had 200 passengers, including people from Iran and Afghanistan, of which at least 64 lost their lives in this incident.

On Tuesday, Italian police announced that they have arrested a Turkish national and two Pakistani nationals on suspicion of smuggling refugees into Italy.

Alberto Lipolis, an official from the Italian police, said these three individuals launched the wooden boat carrying refugees despite bad weather conditions in Turkey and set off towards Italy.

According to this police official, survivors of the disaster have identified these three individuals as the main culprits of the tragedy.
