Agence France-Presse, quoting Pakistani media, announced on Saturday, March 10, that Asif Ali Zardari, the husband of Benazir Bhutto, the assassinated Prime Minister of this country, became the President of Pakistan for the second time.
According to this report, Mr. Zardari secured 411 votes from provincial, national, and parliamentary representatives, compared to 181 votes given to his rival candidate.
The election of Mr. Zardari as the President of Pakistan occurred three weeks after the controversial parliamentary elections in this country, which were held under intense security and accompanied by allegations of fraud.
The parliament in Islamabad elected Shehbaz Sharif as the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on March 4.
