Associated Press: China Rejected the U.S. Request to Stop Buying Oil from Iran and Russia
The Associated Press reported on Monday, August 3rd, that China has rejected U.S. requests to stop buying oil from Russia and Iran.
U.S. officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bassett, discussed tariffs proposed by the Donald Trump administration with Chinese officials last week during a two-day meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, and raised the request to stop purchasing oil from Russia and Iran.
The U.S. has considered a 100 percent tariff for China.
At the conclusion of this meeting, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that coercion and pressure will not yield results and that China will defend its sovereignty, security, and interests for development.
According to the Associated Press, the U.S. aims to limit the sale of oil from Russia and Iran, which is the main source of income for Moscow and Tehran, to reduce the military budget of Russia and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
