Attack on the EU Ambassador’s Residence in Khartoum Clashes
As the battle between two rival military factions continues in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, the residence of the EU ambassador has been attacked.
According to Michael Martin, the Irish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aidan O’Hara, the EU ambassador in Khartoum who is an Irish diplomat, was not seriously injured in this attack.
The clashes began following the escalation of the conflict between the army commander and the commander of the paramilitary group known as the Rapid Support Forces.
The United Nations has announced that at least 185 people have been killed and 1,800 injured during three days of military clashes in Khartoum.
Mr. Martin has described the attack on the EU ambassador’s residence as a major violation of the obligations related to the protection of diplomats’ lives.
