Attack on Pezeshkian under the pretext of Israel
Besides the hardline politicians who have a separate discussion, these kinds of cyber attacks on an official of the country, which had been completely halted for the past three years, surged again yesterday. Such attacks are not unprecedented but are rare. Known Twitter users, identified as cyber activists, tried to make hashtags like ‘Impeach Pezeshkian’ trend since yesterday.
In addition to President Mohammad Javad Zarif, the strategic deputy Pezeshkian and Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister, were also targeted by these attacks. Bloomberg, in its headline, referred to Iran’s readiness to reduce tensions with Israel, a matter that was quickly denied by our Foreign Minister.
What did Pezeshkian say?
The controversies, insults, and widespread attacks on Pezeshkian were due to these few sentences: Let’s help, interact, and not fight. Issues that we can solve through dialogue should not be resolved with missiles and weapons.
We are ready to lay down all our weapons provided that Israel does the same. An international organization should come and secure the region. Even that is not necessary; we know how to secure ourselves.
But this part of the President’s remarks was overlooked. No one should arm the other side to the teeth and tell one side that they are not allowed to even build a missile.
Experts’ analysis of the President’s statements
Two well-known foreign policy experts analyzed the President’s statements. Hassan Beheshtipour wrote in a Telegram post that when we listen to the audio file, we see that the President’s discussion is not about reducing tension with Israel. Pezeshkian talks about disarmament on both sides. This statement does not mean readiness to reduce tension; it means disarming the opponent’s propaganda using the zero-balance theory.
In reality, Pezeshkian is proposing a conditional suspension that is unacceptable for Israel, as Israel’s survival is based on expansionism, and it pursues this policy relying on possessing various deadly weapons. Therefore, it is a tactic to disarm the opponent’s propaganda because everyone knows Israel will never agree to disarm. I ask you to pay attention to this important matter.
For several decades, the theory of a Middle East free of nuclear weapons has been proposed by Iran, Egypt, and several other countries in international forums. Why doesn’t Israel comply?
Because this criminal regime has over 200 nuclear warheads, and a Middle East free of nuclear weapons means the nuclear disarmament of Israel, and it is clear that they will never accept this plan.
But why does the opposing side keep raising this plan in international forums? To prove that Israel’s propaganda about the nuclear threat is false, because if Israel were truly concerned about a nuclear threat, it would accept the zero nuclear balance.
Based on this, you can be sure that Mr. Pezeshkian’s discussion here is not about disarming Iran in favor of Israel, but rather about exposing Israel’s propaganda and showing that this expansionist regime relies on weapons for its survival and will never agree to disarm.
The only criticism that can be made of Mr. Pezeshkian’s statement is that he should have used the term ‘establishing a zero balance’ instead of the very general term ‘disarmament’.
Reza Nasri, another foreign policy expert, also wrote that the President here refers to the double standards applied by the West regarding Iran’s actions and the Israeli regime. They ask Iran not to support resistance groups, but they arm Israel to the teeth.
They ask Iran to dismantle its peaceful nuclear program, but Israel is allowed to have nuclear weapons and threaten others with them.
They ask Iran to stop its missile program, but Israel can possess any weapon it wants. In this context, he says we are ready to lay down all our weapons provided that Israel does the same. The purpose of this statement is to show the irrelevance of Western expectations and has nothing to do with reconciliation with Israel.
