Axios: Islamic Republic’s plot to assassinate Israeli ambassador in Mexico foiled
Axios reported on Friday, November 6, citing American and Israeli officials, that the Islamic Republic intended to assassinate the Israeli ambassador in Mexico, a plan that was thwarted this summer with the cooperation of Mexican security services.
American and Israeli officials have said that the plan was devised through the Quds Force and Unit 11000, the same group previously involved in attempts to carry out attacks against Jewish and Israeli targets in Europe and Australia.
This plot began in late 2024, and according to informed sources, the main agent organized his operatives in Latin America through the Islamic Republic’s embassy in Venezuela. The assassination plan was active until the first half of 2025, when it was foiled by Mexican security forces.
An American official stated that the plot has been contained and currently poses no threat.
The spokesperson for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked the Mexican government for their cooperation in dismantling this plot and said that Israeli intelligence agencies will continue to collaborate with global security institutions to counter threats from the Islamic Republic.
According to American officials, this action is the latest in a series of Iran’s attempts to target diplomats, journalists, and dissidents worldwide.
