Azerbaijan Warns Its Citizens About Traveling to Iran

Azerbaijan issued a warning about its citizens traveling to Iran

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan released a statement urging its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Iran

The statement also advised those citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan currently in Iran to adhere to security protocols and exercise utmost caution

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan referenced the terrorist attack on its embassy in Tehran that occurred in January of this year, emphasizing that given this attack and the unstable conditions in Iran, its citizens are better off not traveling to Iran

Following this attack, the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan closed its embassy in Tehran and withdrew all its diplomats from the city, leaving only its consulate in Tabriz operational

In a reciprocal move, the Islamic Republic expelled four Azerbaijani diplomats this May

Earlier, in mid-April, Azerbaijan had expelled four Iranian diplomats, declaring them persona non grata
