Contradictory Statements of Raisi: Americans Must Decide
Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, in an interview with Al Jazeera English about the JCPOA negotiations, considers the main party in the talks to be the United States, yet he deems negotiations with this country to be futile. These contradictory statements are something you might hear from few presidents around the world. He told Al Jazeera:
What hinders the agreement is the commitment that the Americans must make. We have announced our position. Our negotiating team is still present at the negotiation table, and we have repeatedly stated that we will adhere to a fair and good agreement. However, the Americans must decide. This problem is actually the Americans’ problem; they must decide what they want to do.
We have experienced a round of direct negotiations. There is no benefit left in direct negotiations, and it has been proven that they are seeking more concessions. We see no benefit in direct negotiations with the Americans and do not see our nation’s interest in negotiating.
