Boris Johnson has told his allies that he will run for the leadership of the Conservatives and return to Number 10 Downing Street. Now, Rishi Sunak, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, who made headlines by pressuring Boris to resign following his unprecedented and historic scandals and was Liz Truss’s rival for the Conservative leadership, is the frontrunner to become Prime Minister. Boris Johnson and Penny Mordaunt, a prominent Conservative figure in the House of Commons, are the second and third contenders. The UK will know its new Prime Minister within a week at most. Economic and political crises have made the job of the future Prime Minister very challenging, amid intense pressure from other UK parties to hold an early election.
