Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi: Iran’s international bandwidth has been reduced by at least 4000 gigabits.
Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, the former Minister of Information, by republishing a post from Zoomit, a source for technology news, which reported a reduction of over 700 billion tomans in revenue for Mobile Telecommunication Company of Iran due to internet disruptions in the country, wrote on his Telegram channel.
If these statistics from Zoomit are accurate, it can be calculated that Iran’s international bandwidth has been reduced by at least 4000 gigabits, while the TehranIX website reports an average growth of less than 400 gigabits in domestic bandwidth. This means that despite the severe restrictions imposed, at most only ten percent of Iranian users’ data exchange has been redirected to domestic platforms.
The forecast of a 10 trillion toman decrease in operators’ revenue by the end of the current year, the sharp decline in the value of the telecom sector’s stocks on the stock exchange, and serious liquidity problems for these companies, which may sometimes manifest in the failure to pay contractors’ claims or significant delays in paying employees’ salaries, is not far-fetched.
