German Chancellor’s Strong Support for Sanctions
Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, defended his country’s new and planned sanctions against officials and institutions of the Islamic Republic due to the suppression of protesters, stating that the Iranian government alone is responsible for the explosion of violence.
In a video message posted on Scholz’s Twitter account, it is stated that Iran is a member of the United Nations and committed to implementing and supporting human rights standards. We judge the leaders of Iran based on this.
The German Chancellor, referring to the threats from the officials of the Islamic Republic against his country, emphasized, ‘What kind of government are you that shoots at its own citizens? Anyone who acts this way should count on our reaction.’
On Thursday, November 10, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic addressed Annalena Baerbock, his German counterpart, stating that provocative, interventionist, and undiplomatic positions do not reflect maturity and prudence. Destroying old ties has long-term consequences.
Amir Abdollahian added that the response of the Islamic Republic will be appropriate and decisive.
