Netanyahu officially tasked with forming Israel’s coalition government
The President of Israel officially tasked Benjamin Netanyahu with forming the next Israeli government during a meeting, based on Israel’s parliamentary democracy process. It is the president who, based on post-election conditions and the seats won by leaders of various parties and blocs, assigns the leader who has the best chance of forming a government.
Netanyahu, who has four weeks to reach an agreement with aligned extremist parties to form a coalition government, specifically winked at his Arab allies who are pleased with his election, and spoke of the need for new agreements and treaties with them in his remarks after being recognized as the main candidate for prime minister.
The West is following the formation of the next Israeli government with concern, and the United States and Europe are worried about the extremist Jewish figures who will enter the Israeli cabinet.
