Netanyahu and Erdogan Celebrate a Return to the Good Old Days
In a phone conversation with Benjamin Netanyahu, the President of Turkey congratulated him on his electoral victory and expressed support for Israel in the recent events involving the military’s confrontation with Palestinians. He emphasized increasing cooperation between Turkey and the Israeli government. This was their first conversation in nine years.
The previously tense and fluctuating relations between the two sides during Netanyahu’s previous terms as Prime Minister provided Erdogan with an opportunity to advance his own agenda and stage a hollow display of leadership among Islamic countries in the fight against Israel. Naturally, Netanyahu is pleased to join Erdogan in this game and has spoken of a new era in relations between the two countries during his conversation with Erdogan.
