Destruction and silence have enveloped Kyiv.
The heaviest missile attacks by the Russian military have targeted various Ukrainian cities, especially its capital, and unprecedented widespread destruction in Kyiv has been reported. With the destruction of the city’s vital infrastructure and the obliteration of power facilities, two-thirds of the city is in darkness.
Vitaliy Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, has announced that Ukrainian technicians have done everything within their power, yet given the ongoing attacks and the current state of available resources, there is little more they can do.
European officials are striving to assist Ukrainians in these difficult conditions. With power cuts and the absence of heating facilities, serious threats loom over Ukrainian citizens in temperatures below twenty degrees. The cooperation group of major European city municipalities, in collaboration with the EU Parliament, will implement a program to send hundreds of generators to Ukraine. These generators will only meet a portion of the Ukrainians’ needs.
