Temporary arrest of Danish journalist for reporting on Iranian protesters
A Danish journalist who filmed a short video of an attack on an Iranian man and woman supporting protests in Qatar has been briefly detained by Qatari police.
Rasmus Tantolt announced on his Twitter account that he was arrested for filming Iranians supporting the protests. It appears this short video was made moments after the attack on the Iranian man and woman, who were carrying symbols of the protests in Iran.
This incident occurred at the end of the match between Iran and the USA in Qatar, and based on other images shared by Mr. Rasmus Tantolt, it seems some supporters of the Iranian team, who are pro-government, caused unrest in the stadium after Iran’s defeat to the USA.
In one of the reports by this Danish TV2 journalist, the frightened man and woman explain that they were physically attacked by some individuals and ask the journalist not to leave them alone.
Rasmus Tantolt wrote on his Twitter account that after his arrest, Qatari police asked him to delete the recorded footage from his camera, but he refused to do so.
