Congressional committee charges Trump over assault

The committee investigating last year’s assault on the US Congress says former President Donald Trump should officially be charged, including with inciting insurrection against the government.

This committee, led by the Democratic Party due to its majority in Congress, but also including prominent Republicans, has unanimously voted for the US Department of Justice to pursue criminal charges against Donald Trump.

The committee also released a video of Mr. Trump’s former advisor discussing the former president’s refusal to accept the election defeat.

On January 6, 2021, Mr. Trump’s supporters attacked the US Congress to prevent the certification of Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
