68% inflation in food prices compared to last year
While the Islamic Republic newspaper reports that the country’s economic officials announce a trend of decreasing inflation rates, the realities show the opposite.
The Iranian Statistics Center released information on the Consumer Price Index or inflation rate at the beginning of December 2022. According to this report, the point-to-point inflation rate for the entire country in November was 48.5%. The inflation rate for rural areas was announced to be over 51%, which is about 3% higher than the urban areas, which is approximately 48%.
The inflation rate for food in November 2022 increased by nearly 68% compared to November 2021.
This figure was about 70% in October. Inflation for bread and cereals was over 74%, and for red meat and poultry, it was more than 64%. Milk, cheese, and eggs saw an increase of over 81%, and oils and fats had a price increase of about 250%.
