Australia is monitoring Iranian warships
The Australian Ministry of Defense says it is aware of the presence of two Iranian frigates in the South Pacific Ocean and is closely monitoring their activities. Dena and Makran, which belong to the 86th fleet of the Islamic Republic’s Navy, set sail in September.
Two Iranian warships have been tracked crossing the South Pacific Ocean.
ABC network, reporting this news quoting the Australian Ministry of Defense, writes that the activities and movements of these vessels in the area are being closely watched.
These vessels, named Dena and Makran, belong to the 86th fleet of the Islamic Republic’s Navy, and their presence in the South Pacific waters is interpreted by observers as a display of naval power. Makran was originally an oil tanker that has been converted into a naval base ship through refurbishment and repurposing.
A spokesperson for the Australian Ministry of Defense confirmed the activity of these vessels in the area, stating, ‘As part of broader efforts to protect maritime borders, we also monitor maritime traffic near the exclusive economic zone.’
