New Hijab Law Drafted: Full Unveiling is a Crime, Not Partial

A new hijab law has been drafted; being without a hijab is a crime, not wearing it improperly.

Punishments include fines, travel bans, employment prohibitions; there is no longer a morality police.

Shargh newspaper wrote that if citizens are found without a hijab, the matter will first be reported to the judicial authorities according to public regulations on obvious crimes. If the individual has no prior record of not wearing a hijab, a written commitment will be taken from them, and the case will be filed away.

In cases where the individual has a previous record of the crime of being without a hijab or refuses to make a commitment to the judicial authorities, the case related to this crime will undergo judicial proceedings.

The legislator has introduced new punishments as the main penalties under the title of social deprivations in Article 9 of the same bill.

Eighth-degree social punishments include creating monitoring periods, free public services, fines, employment and appointment restrictions, compulsory residence, travel bans, all for limited durations.
