Mohammad Mehdi Karami’s lawyer was not allowed to meet with the family before the execution.
Mohammad Mehdi Karami’s lawyer tweeted that Mohammad Mehdi Karami’s father told him that the sentence was carried out this morning without allowing them a final visit with his family.
He wrote that on Wednesday, he called from prison and said he started a dry hunger strike in protest of not accepting you as my lawyer. It was supposed that if I succeeded in granting power of attorney, I would file for a retrial.
Mohammad Mehdi Karami’s parents had repeatedly released videos asking officials to revoke their son’s death sentence.
Mashallah Karami, his father, had said that he is a street vendor.
Mohammad Hosseini, another protester who was executed today, also did not see his parents.
His lawyer, Ali Sharifzadeh Ardakani, had previously reported severe torture in prison.
Mohammad Hosseini and Mohammad Mehdi Karami were arrested on charges of killing a Basij member during the fortieth-day ceremony for Hadis Najafi in Karaj and were executed today, January 7th.
