Holding a memorial ceremony for the Ukrainian plane crash at the University of Tehran
In a statement, the Islamic Association of Students at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Tehran wrote that on the anniversary of the shooting down of the Ukrainian plane, a group of University of Tehran students gathered at the Fine Arts campus to commemorate the victims of the November 2019 protests, the victims of the Ukrainian plane crash, and the victims of the women’s freedom movement and recent executions. They also reiterated their demands and declared that they will never give up their fight for freedom.
According to part of the statement by this student organization, during the ceremony, the students were surrounded by security forces who suddenly attacked the gathering and destroyed the elements present there. They then proceeded to attack the students, using violent threats and insults in an attempt to disperse them.
In continuation of this announcement, it is claimed that security forces attempted to provoke chaos by using violent tactics in order to find an excuse for more severe suppression. Students, aware of this scenario, did not engage with the security forces and tried to continue their program. However, the security forces attacked the students and physically assaulted several of them, threatening to identify and punish them. During this attack, several students were detained by the security forces and taken to the security room, and one student’s ID card was confiscated.
