Finland grants asylum to Afghan women and girls
The Finnish Immigration Service has announced that due to the worsening situation of women’s rights and freedoms since the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan, asylum will be granted to all Afghan women and girls seeking refuge in the country.
According to Finnish media reports, the Immigration Service of Finland has updated its guidelines for handling requests submitted by Afghans in order to incorporate any new changes.
Following Sweden and Denmark, Finland is the third country to announce such a decision, which is in line with a recent report published by the European Union’s asylum agency.
In addition, the Finnish Immigration Service has also updated its guidelines for handling requests submitted by Afghan Hazaras, as the recent report by the European Union’s asylum agency states that the vulnerability of Hazaras in Afghanistan has worsened due to ISIS attacks.
