Iran’s threats are the focus of the U.S. Defense Secretary’s trip to the Middle East
King Abdullah of Jordan said on Sunday, March 5, during a meeting with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, that his country needs help to combat drug smuggling along its borders with Syria, which militias supported by the Islamic Republic are accused of being involved in.
American officials say that Lloyd Austin’s trip to the Middle East is intended to show support for Washington’s allies in the region against the growing threat posed by the Islamic Republic. This trip started in Jordan, and Mr. Austin will continue on to Israel and Egypt.
A Jordanian official told Reuters that the King of Jordan discussed with the U.S. Defense Secretary the deployment of militias supported by the Islamic Republic in southern Syria and Amman’s growing concerns about this issue.
