A proposal from a group of activists to ensure women’s rights in Iran
A group of women’s movement activists, under the name of the Iranian Feminist Collective for ‘Woman, Life, Freedom,’ have proposed a draft women’s rights bill. They are demanding fundamental changes during the formation of a constituent assembly and the drafting of a constitution after the Islamic Republic to ensure gender, ethnic, and religious equality and diversity, committed to the spirit of the revolutionary movement ‘Woman, Life, Freedom.’
The drafters of this bill added that their goal in drafting the women’s rights bill was to create a precise and concise text with an eye on the history of women’s struggles and their most important demands, so it can be easily integrated into future legal frameworks, including the new Iranian constitution.
They introduced themselves as a group of women’s movement activists from different generations with diverse ethnic, gender, and sexual identities and various socio-political views. They added that, over the years, the response of Iranian security forces to women’s actions has invariably been repression and violence. However, today, more than ever, the international community is aware of the severity and extent of state violence against women and human rights violations in Iran.
