US Senate Revokes Two Authorizations for War in Iraq

The U.S. Senate repealed two war authorizations in Iraq

On Wednesday, American senators introduced bipartisan legislation to repeal the war authorizations in Iraq, 20 years after U.S. forces invaded the country.

Both parties supported the repeal of the 2002 authorization for the use of military force, which gave George Bush the power to attack Iraq. Additionally, the authorization for the 1991 attack, which gave George H.W. Bush the power to attack Iraq after Saddam’s forces invaded Kuwait, has also been repealed.

Chuck Schumer, the Senate Majority Leader, said that the United States, Iraq, and indeed the entire world have changed dramatically since 2002, and it is time for the laws to adapt to these changes.
